Look back:  Read back over 1 Samuel 4:1b-22 and remember the glory of God departs from Israel to ultimately establish his kingdom as he fulfills his promise to judge the priesthood.

Look ahead: This coming Sunday, Tom will be preaching from 1 Samuel 5:1-12. Read the passage several times during the week with your family.

Ask: What happened to the Philistines while they had the ark? Why do you think that happened? What happened to Dagon and what does that indicate?

Pray: Adoration: Praise God as the one true God, the sovereign King of kings and Lord of lords. Confession: Confess any sin the passage brings to mind, including the tendency to be justified by works and to idolize people and things.  Thanksgiving: Give thanks for God sparing people from his wrath in Christ who made propitation for us.  Supplication:  Pray for unengaged unreached people groups around the world and learn more here.

CHRIST CONNECTION

This is the big idea of how this week’s Bible story points to Jesus.

  • Younger Preschool: Sin separates us from God. Jesus came to bring us back to God. Jesus is the true King who gave His life so we can be forgiven.
  • Kids: Sin always leads us away from God. Jesus came to bring us back to God. Jesus is the true King who gave His life as a sacrifice so we can be forgiven of our sins. Jesus’ kingdom will last forever.

BIG PICTURE QUESTION & ANSWER

This is an important biblical truth that your child will encounter each week of this unit.

  • Younger Preschool: What is idolatry? Idolatry is loving something else more than God.
  • Kids: What is idolatry? Idolatry is a sin of the heart in which we love and value something else above God.
