Look back:  Read back over 1 Samuel 5 and remember God goes into exile to glorify himself as he fights his people's battles for them.

Look ahead: This coming Sunday, Pastor Michael will be preaching from 1 Samuel 6. Read the passage several times during the week with your family.

Ask: What did the Philistines return with the ark? What previous judgment of God were the Philistines familiar with? How was God's providence displayed in the return of the ark?

Pray: Adoration: Praise God for his sovereignty and holiness. Confession: Confess any sin the passage brings to mind.  Thanksgiving: Give thanks for God's good providential care over his people.  Supplication:  Pray that you and your family would grow in the grace and knowlege of Jesus.

From Sunday School September 11:

CHRIST CONNECTION

This is the big idea of how this week’s Bible story points to Jesus.

  • Younger Preschool: We do not have to work hard to show God we love Him. Instead, God showed His love for us by sending His Son, Jesus, to be the Savior of the world.
  • Kids: The one true God is not like the false gods. We do not have to work hard to show God we love Him. Instead, He showed His love for us by sending His Son, Jesus. Jesus died to rescue us from sin, and He hears us when we cry out to Him.

BIG PICTURE QUESTION & ANSWER

This is an important biblical truth that your child will encounter each week of this unit.

  • Younger Preschool: What is idolatry? Idolatry is loving something else more than God.
  • Kids: What is idolatry? Idolatry is a sin of the heart in which we love and value something else above God.
