Look back:  Read back over 1 Samuel 2:12-36 and remember the immorality in God’s people was rooted in the priesthood, making necessary God’s swift and severe judgment.

Look ahead: This coming Sunday, Jeremy will be preaching from 1 Samuel 3:1-4:1a. Read the passage several times during the week with your family.

Ask: What was particularly unusual about God speaking to Samuel (3:1b)? What did God tell Samuel? What was said about Samuel and his role at the end of chapter 3?

Pray: Adoration: Praise God for his word.  Confession: Confess any sin that the passage brings to mind, including neglect of personal time in Scripture. Thanksgiving:  Give thanks for the good things the Lord is doing in your life and family. Supplication:  Pray for yourself and your family to be committed to reading and submitting to Scripture.

Sing: Visit the blog for this week's music. You can also find our music playlists on Spotify. We'll be singing two of my family's personal favorites: "Your Will Be Done" and "Jesus, Strong and Kind" as well as one we haven't done in a while: "My Heart is Filled With Thankfulness."

From Sunday School August 21:

CHRIST CONNECTION

This is the big idea of how this week’s Bible story points to Jesus.

  • Younger Preschool: Solomon sinned, and Israel was divided into two kingdoms. God’s people needed a perfect king. God sent His Son, Jesus, to be King. Jesus is a perfect King who brings God’s people together.
  • Kids: King Solomon’s sin led to the division of the kingdom. God’s people needed a better king. Through David’s family, God would send His own Son, Jesus, to be a perfect King over God’s people forever. Jesus is greater than Solomon. Jesus brings His people together and leads them back to God.

BIG PICTURE QUESTION & ANSWER

This is an important biblical truth that your child will encounter each week of this unit.

  • Younger Preschool: What is mercy? Mercy is when God does not give us the punishment that we deserve.
  • Kids: What is mercy? Mercy is when God does not give us the punishment that we deserve.
