Look back:  Read back over Psalm 40 and remember David is restored and discovers the purpose of his salvation.

Look ahead: This coming Sunday, Pastor Michael will begin a new series in 1 Samuel with 1 Samuel 1:1-2:11. Read the passage several times during the week with your family.

Ask: What does chapter 1 indicate about the sovereignty of God in our lives, even in painful circumstances? What encouragement should the people of God have for casting our cares on God in prayer?

Pray: Adoration: Praise God for his sovereign, providential care. Confession: Confess any sin that your reading in 1 Samuel brings to mind. Thanksgiving: Give thanks to God for answers to prayer and consider recording them so you don't forget. Supplication: Pray for needs within your life and family and trust the Lord to provide what will glorify him and be for your ultimate good.

What does Christ’s resurrection mean for us?
A: Christ triumphed over sin and death so that all who trust in him are raised to new life in this world and to everlasting life in the world to come.

From Sunday School August 7:

CHRIST CONNECTION

This is the big idea of how this week’s Bible story points to Jesus.

  • Older Preschool: Solomon was a wise king who wanted to follow God’s plan, but Solomon was not perfect. God had a plan to send a greater and wiser king—Jesus. Jesus trusted God and followed God’s plan by dying on the cross for our sin.
  • Kids: Solomon was a wise king who wanted to do God’s plan. Solomon wasn’t perfect, but God had a plan to give His people a greater and wiser king—His Son, Jesus. Jesus completely trusted God. Jesus surrendered His own life to die on the cross for our sin.

BIG PICTURE QUESTION & ANSWER
