Look back:  Read back over Psalm 39 and remember David reaches the bottom of the pit of despair and seeks his only source of rescue.

Look ahead: This coming Sunday, Pastor Michael will be preaching from Psalm 40. Read the passage several times during the week with your family.

Ask: What does the Lord's work prompt David to do? How does Hebrews 10 help see this passage with a gospel lens? What are some examples of God's steadfast love and faithfulness in your life and in your family?

Pray: Adoration: Praise God for salvation, for his wondrous works, and for his steadfast love, faithfulness, and mercy. Confession: Confess any sin that Psalm 40 brings to mind. Thanksgiving: Give thanks to God (and share with others!) for the good things he has done and is doing in your life. Supplication: Pray for opportunities to speak of the faithfulness and salvation of God with people in your life.

From Sunday School July 31:

CHRIST CONNECTION

This is the big idea of how this week’s Bible story points to Jesus.

  • Older Preschool: David was sorry for his sin and asked God to change his heart. We can tell God about our sin and ask Him to forgive us. Jesus died and rose again to take away our sin and change our hearts so we can live with God forever.
  • Kids: David confessed his sin and asked God to change his heart so that he would not want to sin again. When we realize our sin, we can confess to God and ask for His forgiveness. Jesus covers our guilt and changes our hearts so we can have life with Him forever.

BIG PICTURE QUESTION & ANSWER

This is an important biblical truth that your child will encounter each week of this unit.

  • Older Preschool: What is grace? Grace is when God gives us something good even when we do not deserve it.
  • Kids: What is grace? Grace is when God gives us something good even when we do not deserve it.
